About the Designer's
Workshop Patterns

Foundation pieced (sometimes referred to as 'paper pieced') patterns have become extremely popular and well received by quilters around the world.

It is a continuation of the improvement in techniques which makes our work faster, more accurate, and more 'do-able.' Do not be intimidated by the complexity of the finished quilts. It's actually much easier than it looks!

The Designer's Workshop patterns utilize a 'sew & flip' method of construction. No templates are required. The freezer paper foundation is broken down into sections. Within each section the pieces are numbered in order, and the color code for the fabric to be used is indicated.

Fabrics are sewn to the foundation, then trimmed down. This provides for extremely accurate piecing of even the sharpest points or smallest pieces without the frustration of 'template based' patterns. Fabrics adhere to the freezer paper foundation when ironed, eliminating the need for pins.

Patterns contain a reusable Master Drawing and complete directions for the technique. Printed freezer paper foundation sheets eliminate the tracing step and are included in each pattern. Replacement foundations are available for most patterns.
Patterns are available at quilt shops throughout the U.S. and abroad. We urge you to support your local shops. However, if you cannot obtain the items you are looking for they may be ordered through this web site by printing out the order form for mailing, or by phone, fax, or email. Wholesale inquiries welcome. All Designs are copyrighted by The Designers Workshop. © 2014.
